Everything that this video uses to describe box cat could also be used to describe me. The owners of Maru are the luckiest people alive. They should put him out to stud.

Cool Stuff

Boooooooom has a neat profile on artist David Horovitz. He sends faxes to random businesses with the time of the sunset that day on them, hoping to get people to break from their routines.

Newsies!

My little sister had never seen Newsies so I made her watch it on Youtube and one of the suggested videos off to the side was some behind-the-scenes footage shot by one of the actors. This is way before DVD extras and commentaries and crap like that but it's an awesome glimpse at 90s fashion and at some of the kids from the best movie EVER. Young Christian Bale makes a few appearances and so does David Moscow. This is for diehard nerds only so if that doesn't apply to you then just move along, friend.

"I hear Baltimore is nice this time of year"

MEH sent me a website, Kilduffs, dedicated to everything I love about Baltimore (which is everything). It's a collection of old photos and postcards and stories about the city that are really nice to check out if you are ever feeling homesick for the greatest city in America. Here's what Kilduff's has to offer:

Interesting architecture...
Old restaurants (My dad was so upset when we got to Baltimore and got to Hausner's and realized it was closed)...
Non-existent amusement parks (I believe parts of the original Hairspray was filmed here)...

All the branches of Enoch Pratt (the Canton one is my favorite)...
Old hotels...
Did u know that the Wyman Park Building was once a Marine Hospital (and that I guess there used to be tennis courts in front of Levering?)...
Abandoned hospitals...
Old postcards....
This is the Chesapeake Restaurant that is next to the Charles.

Cool old fire houses...
Kids hanging out...
Old diners....
CLUB CHARLES!??!? I'm not sure this is the same Club Charles we know and love but look how schmancy it was...
Choiches....
Monuments and towers...
Police buildings...
Beers that used to be brewed in the city...
And old breweries, including Pabst...
and bridges!

There's a ton of other really cool stuff on the site so please go check it out.

As performed by my roommate who taught herself how to play the guitar and got her very own youtube account so I could hear her music and post it on my blog and probably make her blush.

Down and Derby

It's four days until my favorite day of the year and I haven't even started looking at horses yet!

Here are my initial thoughts on the contenders for the 135th running of Kentucky Derby:

General Quarters -- Never heard of his owner. The jockey is really strong but has yet to bag a Triple Crown (but who can hold that against him). GQ's wins have been inconsistent but I'm not willing to write him off just yet. Depending on how the horse likes the track this could be a surprise win. I wouldn't put him far outside of placing either.

Pioneer of the Nile -- Undefeated in all of his races, all of them in California. Trained by Bob Baffert and this is his only horse in the mix so far (where is Nick Zito this year?). Ridden by Garrett Gomez. Some people are saying the horse is too young and inexperienced to race but I think Baffert knows what's best.

Hold Me Back -- The only reason I'm considering this guy is because he's being ridden by Kent Desormeaux who rode last year's Derby (and Preakness) winner Big Brown. He's ridden 3 derby winners and he's the most focused rider I've ever had the opportunity to watch in action. He's one of my favorite jockeys.

Flying Private -- I will never not consider a D. Wayne Lukas horse. This horse is not a favorite, not by a long shot, but I want to see this horse run before I make any predictions. I have a lot of faith in the four-time Derby winning trainer and his choice of jockey, Robby Albarado

Musket Man -- Don't know enough about him yet but I don't want to take him out of consideration just yet.

Chocolate Candy -- People are talking about this horse and I like Mike Smith. He wouldn't ride a horse he didn't know could win.

I Want Revenge -- Looks like an early favorite and is ridden by a very young up-and-comer, Joe Talamo (he's 19). Talamo is totally fearless and wants this win badly.

Dunkirk -- One of Todd Pletcher's 4 horses in this race and one of the only ones to have a confirmed rider, Edgar Prado. The Hall of Famer is going to have a lot to deal with as this horse is relatively inexperienced. Looks strong though.

Regal Ransom and Desert Party -- I'm not shutting out the UAE horses just yet. Lord knows they are serious racers out there.

Ok so believe it or not, but that's my narrowed down list (cut it down to half the field, I'm so bad at this haha). I'll look over my picks some more tomorrow and try and cut this list down by half and so on and so forth until the big day.

Adorable but also...no

I'm glad they both loved Shrek so much and that they both found each other in this crazy world so that they could have their Shrek wedding. I started to say I don't think I could see myself -- me the lover of all things tacky wedding -- ever having a movie-themed wedding but then stopped abruptly when I thought of how awesome a Rocky Horror or Jaws themed wedding would be. I'm not going to judge. Good for them.

Curiosity killed the...

A while back, Rich from Four Four wrote about a passage in the book Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk that was so vile and revolting it made him pass out on an airplane. He posted the passage in white text (so you would have to highlight it to read it) and I labored over it for days trying to decide if I could read it or not. I had other people read it and they didn't vomit their guts and piss their pants but I still couldn't bring myself to do it (I'm sure it doesn't seem so bad out of context but my brain has been building this passage up for like 7 months now). Here's the link to his post if you want to try it out for yourself. My decision not to read it still haunts me.

Drop Dead Fred was my favorite movie ever

I'm so glad they are re-making it because it was a terrible movie to begin with and they can't possibly ruin anything about it. I watched it so much that my mom banned me from renting it (that and Newsies, what was she thinking?). Videogum has a hilarious post about the remake and how Russell Brand is taking over the part of Fred. Yes! Market a sex addict to children!!! I am totally serious when I say that this is exactly what America needs right now. Also, RB is the sex.
Also, the Videogum writers make me laugh so hard that I fart in my slanket: "Hollywood should change it's name to Geniuswood, because they just get it."

Strange Dreams

I had a dream about this bulldog last night. My dad gave him to my mom as a present (which would never happen). Then I was late for my college graduation which was being held at my high school? And I didn't have a cap and gown? And then one of my teeth fell out?
