play it straight don't get it twisted...this is number two of eight if you want to watch these in order. It doesn't make much difference anyway.

Downtown 81 (1 of 8)

I post this as proof that God exists. Sometimes it might be hard to believe, what with the cancellation of Arrested Development and the closing of the talking head club, but every now and then I get a glimpse of the good in the world and I smile.
This might be my last post ever because after this...I'm not sure there will be anything else to say.
I give you (I'm not sure how illegal this is but I paid my 23dollars and 44cents for the DVD at the MFAH so I might as well get some use out of it)Jean-Michel Basquiat in "Downtown 81"
Its a classic artflick packed tight with performances from scenesters of the time (fab five freddy, dna, the plastics, tuxedomoon, debbie harry, kid creole and the coconuts, etc.) almost to the point of suffocation. But it's an interesting cultural polariod and after watching Sun Ra's "Space is the Place" courtesy of Mark M I realized that new york beat is making the same kind of point but in a different genre. So please, enjoy this, make fun of it, quote it, learn from it, research it, boom, boom for real.
